Spam be gone!

It just sits there, quietly waiting for me to react. Almost staring, almost mocking. Downright condescending as if to say, “Ha ha! I got past your firewall!” It bothers me! It really does. I’m not sure why or how it works but I hate spam!

The first thing I do like a child of the Nineties is to check my email every morning when I wake up. You could say I’m a geek and you wouldn’t be too far wrong either. But that’s a topic for another time. Going back to my story, spam or unsolicited emails affect everyone. It’s a virtual marketplace out there. Viagra, Cialis, increasing or decreasing your assets, and my favourite, the email that notifies you about winning the lottery! God knows with the number of times I’ve been declared a winner, I could own a tiny little nation somewhere.

What bothers me most is the way spam inundates every email account that you have. You can block every single address that’s sent you junk mail and hope that you don’t have to deal with it tomorrow. But No! That’s not how it’s meant to be. You find tougher ways to keep these stray intruders out of your space and yet they sneak in unannounced. In fact, sometimes you adopt such stringent measures to keep out spam that you end up locking out half the emails that were actually intended for you!

I have to admit that I admire its resilience. That never-say-die attitude is hard to miss. No matter what you do or how you try to avoid it, spam finds its way to you. If I were only half as determined, I’d do a lot more with my life!  As for the spam in my inbox, my biggest victory is when I hit “delete!”
